School holiday programmes

S.T.A.R.S

The S.T.A.R.S programme was developed in-house by our library teams especially for South Waikato tamariki. The libraries run several fun and exciting S.T.A.R.S activities across the district during the school holiday breaks, which are suited to children aged 4 – 11. No registration is needed to attend these, and they are free, just turn up!

Summer S.T.A.R.S is our annual summer reading programme, and it’s:

  • easy to join
  • free
  • open to all children across the South Waikato aged 4 – 11 years
  • simple to complete
  • and so much fun to do!

Register

Participants need to register for this programme, and places are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Read

Once registered, children read a minimum of 5 library books over the season.

Report

Tamariki come into the library to report on and discuss what they have read. Each report earns an incentive and a token for the end of year prize draw.

Reap the Rewards

A finale party is held at the end of the programme to celebrate the achievements with kai, entertainment and prizegiving.
