Grants & Funding
Grant Funding Schemes managed by South Waikato District Council
The South Waikato District Council is not a funding organisation but can be a valuable partner for community groups and organisations looking for support and guidance.
How can Council assist
Having support from Council can greatly assist in securing funding to enable your organisation to grow. To receive formal support from Council, your organisation must be a registered legal entity, (such as a charity or an incorporated society), it must be undertaking community work in the South Waikato, and we must be confident that the work is providing a tangible benefit to our community. Council undertakes due diligence before providing formal support, such as a letter of support, and it is unlikely we will provide support to organisations without a significant positive track record and reputation.
Investments managed by South Waikato District Council
The Council manages a small Community Investment, which focuses on investing in lead agencies that undertake work aligned with our Long Term Plan. This investment is managed by our Community Investment Committee and is focused on long term investment to achieve significant positive change in our community. The current investment projects cover Youth Engagement and Development, Arts, Culture and Creativity, Community Health and Wellbeing, and Community Vibrancy. Any future community investment / contract opportunities will be notified via the GETS platform.
Creative Communities Scheme (CCS): This scheme is for local community-based arts projects. Creative New Zealand provides allocated funds for distribution by Council. South Waikato District Council currently engages the South Waikato Arts Trust to manage this scheme on our behalf.
South Waikato Environment Initiatives Fund: The Council administers the South Waikato Environmental Initiatives Fund, which supports sustainable environmental projects across the district. This funding is available to private farmers, community groups and schools.

Support organisations
There are several organisations specifically set up to assist community groups in developing their capability. Community Waikato offer both online and onsite Funding, as well as Community Governance Workshops.
Funding workshops usually include planning and preparation, what makes a successful application, and accountability and reporting. Sport Waikato is our local Regional Sports Trust, with a specific remit to help our communities get active through play, active recreation and sport. They are well resourced to assist organisations in the play, sport and active recreation sector.
PLEASE NOTE: For both grant schemes, applications will not be considered where the project/activity is in retrospect (already occurred) prior to allocation of funds.
