The South Waikato District is strategically situated between two of New Zealand's most popular tourist attractions the thermal wonderlands of Rotorua and the Waitomo Caves. The district also has the largest Pacific Island community outside Auckland and Wellington.
Art is clearly visible all over the district. From the corrugated iron art in Tīrau and the murals and mosaics in Putāruru, to the Talking Poles in Tokoroa art is a way of life in this district.
