Housing for the Elderly

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant(s) must meet all of the criteria within a category

Category A

1. A single applicant must be 65 years of age or older (being the age eligible for New Zealand superannuation in New Zealand). For a couple, one of the applicants must be sixty-five years of age or older and the partner must be sixty years or older.
2. For all applicants their only source of taxable income can be from:
   1. New Zealand or Overseas Superannuation
   2. War Disablement Pension
   3. New Zealand Veterans Pension; and
3. The combined value of the applicant’s assets which include cash in the bank, shares, trusts, investments, or any other property of value (excluding furniture, a car or motorbike, personal effects and ownership of Maori land) must not exceed the following figures below:
   1. Single Person: $20,000
   2. Couple: $30,000; and
4. All applicants must not have owned a home in the past five years; and
5. Applicants must have been a resident in the South Waikato District for at least five years.

Category B

1. A single applicant must be sixty-five years of age or older (being the age eligible for New Zealand superannuation in New Zealand). For a couple one of the applicants must be sixty-five years of age or older and the partner must be sixty years or older.
2. A maximum taxable income of $5,000 in current or previous tax year except for income from:
   1. New Zealand or Overseas Superannuation
   2. War Disablement Pension
   3. New Zealand Veterans Pension; and
3. The combined value of the applicant’s assets which include cash in the bank, shares, trusts, investments, or any other property of value (excluding furniture, a car or motorbike, personal effects and ownership of Maori land must not exceed the following figures below:
   1. Single Person: $20,000
   2. Couple: $30,000; and
4. All applicants must not have owned a home in the past five years; and
5. Applicants must have been a resident in the South Waikato District for at least three years.

Category C

1. A single applicant must be sixty years of age or older. For a couple both applicants must be sixty years of age or older.
2. A maximum taxable income of $5,000 in current or previous tax year except for income from:
   1. New Zealand or Overseas Superannuation
   2. War Disablement Pension
   3. New Zealand Veterans Pension; and
3. The combined value of the applicant’s assets which include cash in the bank, shares, trusts, investments, or any other property of value (excluding furniture, a car or motorbike, personal effects and ownership of Maori land must not exceed the following figures below:
   1. Single Person: $20,000
   2. Couple: $30,000; and
4. Applicants must have been a resident in the South Waikato District for at least one year.
