Jones' Landing

Nestled along the serene Waikato River, Jones’ Landing is a designated campsite in South Waikato, offering a picturesque escape. Its spacious grassy area by the river's edge is framed by towering rocky bluffs, making it a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts. With amenities like a playground, boat ramp, and jetty, it's the perfect spot for families and boaters alike to unwind and enjoy nature's tranquility.

HEALTH WARNING: Green-Blue Algae

Dated 22.01.2024: Waikato Regional Council has advised of green-blue algae surrounding areas of Jones' Landing.

With more hot, dry weather forecast by MetService, more cyanobacteria blooms are possible in rivers and lakes. As a general rule of thumb, if the water smells or is bright green like pea soup, it’s better to stay out.

Cyanobacteria or blue-green algae are often found in waterbodies throughout New Zealand and have the potential to produce toxins that can cause skin irritations and other adverse health effects, such as asthma attacks, rapid onset of nausea and diarrhoea. Extra care should be taken with toddlers and dogs as they like to put things into their mouths and even a small amount (the size of a 50-cent piece) can be enough to cause serious harm if eaten.

Jones Landing is located at Jones Landing Road, Arapuni 3481 (access from Lake Arapuni Rd).

An awesome scenic view overlooking the Waikato River and Lake Arapuni area below is accessible from Jones Landing.

The signposted walking track is located on the right handside when driving in to the reserve.

It's roughly a 30-minute trek to the top consisting of a few steep spots along the way. This track requires a moderate fitness level. Appropriate walking shoes and bringing along a water bottle are recommended.

Freedom camping is welcomed at Jones Landing.

A permit is required through this quick and easy process.

There is a large flat area of grass along the river edge as well as a toilet block, BBQ area, playground, boat ramp and jetty.
