South Waikato District Mayoral Scholarship Fund opens soon
23 August 2023
The annual South Waikato District Mayoral Scholarship Fund will officially open for applications on 4 September 2023.
Council is pleased to offer two Mayoral Scholarships to the value of $10,000 each ($2,500 per year for a maximum of four years). The Mayoral Scholarship Fund is open to South Waikato residents who are 21 years-old or younger, and who are planning to start a full-time degree qualification next year.
Since starting the Mayoral Scholarship Fund in 2006 the South Waikato District Council has helped more than 20 young people realise their study dreams and career aspirations. Mayor Gary Petley encouraged all eligible individuals to apply. “We believe that rangatahi of South Waikato have unlimited potential for success and we are happy to give them a jump start into their chosen field of study. Pursuing tertiary study should become the norm amongst the youth in the community. I hope that the Mayoral Scholarship Fund encourages our youth to develop good study habits so that they can apply for scholarships when they’re ready to pursue their tertiary education,” says Mayor Gary.
Interested individuals can apply on Council’s website from Monday 4 September 2023. Applications close on Friday 13 October 2023. We look forward to receiving applications from all those who are pursuing tertiary studies next year.
Initial enquiries should be made to the SWDC People and Capability team by emailing peopleandcapability@southwaikato.govt.nz. The two successful applicants will be announced at their relevant senior prize-giving function.
