COVID delays wheelie bins a second time – to Monday 6 September 2021
COVID continues to impact Council and our community, now by delaying the rollout of the wheelie bins for a second time. The new start date will be Monday 6 September 2021, meaning a two-month delay.
“Staff have made every effort to work around bin production and shipping delays, but due to slippage in critical areas out of our control, including shipping movements, we have had to make the decision to move to Plan B and postpone the start date,” said Ted Anderson, Council’s Assets Group Manager.
“We know there is a high level of interest in the wheelie bin rollout in the community and we’re very disappointed at the situation. We are confident that the bins won’t be delayed further.”
Green bags will continue to be collected from urban kerbsides during the two-month delay. Green bags will be supplied free of charge to urban properties. Council is still working through a system for this and will issue further information once the detail is finalised.
Council has pushed out a lot of information on the rollout. Only three things change:
- A new start date of Monday 6 September 2021.
- Green bags will continue to be collected kerbside for the two-month delay period, ie July and August. Last bag collection will be Friday 3 September. Free green bags will be supplied to urban properties for the July and August period.
- Existing crates must still be used for all recycling for the postponement period, ie, glass in the green crate and all other recycling in the maroon; with paper and cardboard stacked outside the crates if space in the maroon crate doesn’t allow.
“Over coming days the likes of the billboards that have been installed around the district, will be updated with new start dates. Some flyers will now be incorrect, but only regarding the date and kerbside collection of the green bags,” said Council’s Communications Manager Kerry Fabrie. “Everything else stays the same.”
Council knows many in our community are very much looking forward to moving to wheelie bins. Council’s promotion on wheelie bins will take a back seat until around mid-July again where we will once again raise the profile of the wheelie bins.
