SWDC LTP hearings coming soon
Released: Thursday 6 May 2021
South Waikato District Council’s Long Term Plan (LTP) 2021-31 Consultation Document was recently open for public consultation.
“I want to thank the 146 people in our community who took the time to make submissions on Council’s proposed LTP,” said Mayor Jenny Shattock. “The LTP is our contract with the community to deliver on a wide range of activities and services. Submitters raised 353 separate points all of which we will consider and discuss at hearings planned for mid-May. The submissions and feedback will help Council make decisions and then the final decisions will be shared back with submitters and the community.
“I know Councillors and I are looking forward to the hearings so that we can hear from those who wanted to speak to their submissions,” continued Mayor Shattock.
The Consultation Document (CD) outlined our key challenges in the South Waikato and included information about the changing legislation, growth, solid waste and COVID-19 recovery; and it presented five key consultation issues including addressing the future of the South Waikato Indoor Heated Pools, Tokoroa Library, Pensioner Housing upgrades, the Putāruru skatepark and how rates are spread across ratepayers. It also looked at rates examples, spend, income, policies and fees and charges.
“There was a lot of really great feedback on all five of our key issues which will be helpful for Councillors when they come to making the final decisions,” continued Mayor Shattock. “The thought that submitters put into their submissions, and the ideas they raised have been appreciated and will be very helpful when we deliberate.”
Consultation closed at 5pm on Monday 26 April 2021. The LTP hearings are scheduled for Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 May and are open to the public. The final LTP will be adopted by Council at a meeting on Thursday 24 June. Changes are effective from 1 July 2021.
