Tīrau 2020 by-election result
The Tīrau Community Board By-election was held due to the recent resignation of board member, Holly Blair. Council is pleased to announce that Ms Christine Brasell was elected unopposed for a vacant role on the Tīrau Community Board (TCB). Ms Brasell will be sworn in at the next TCB meeting.
The TCB consists of four community members and the Tīrau Ward Councillor. This board’s core function is to look after interests across the Tīrau Ward. TCB Chairperson, Kerry Purdy said, “I would like to welcome Christine to our team. It’s wonderful to have another person who is as passionate about our community as we are, and I know that as a team we can achieve great things for Tirau!”
"On behalf of the South Waikato District Council I would like to thank Hollie for her time and dedication to the Tīrau community and Community Board. I would like to wish her and her family all the best in their future endeavours. I am excited to welcome Christine to Council, and hope she enjoys serving the Tīrau Ward community and finds her new role in the community both interesting and satisfying,” said Mayor Jenny Shattock.
Ms Brasell said she is delighted to be the newest member of the Tirau Community Board. “During my term, I will endeavour to see that the recycling bins are used in the manner they were designed for, that the pedestrian crossing is moved to a safer place and that the street lighting is clearly visible so that people can walk the streets at night safely.
“I will continue to be part of the team who are recreating the old rubbish dump into a recreation area for all of the community. Most importantly, I look forward to learning from and working with the present members of the TCB and Council to improve Tīrau as we all move forward.”
