Whakamaru Reserve will undergo periodic closures.
UPDATED (June 18, 2020) - We've received an update from Hancock Forest Management that the tree felling project occurring in the Kinleith Forest will now start Monday 22 June through to Wednesday 24 June.
This project, headed by Hancock Forest Management, will see the popular reserve closed periodically from Monday to Friday during the hours of 7am-4pm. They aim to have the roadside felling completed by August 17.
Council’s Parks and Reserves team is assured this project will not have a large impact on visitors to Whakamaru Reserve with closures expected to be sporadic. Together with Hancock Forest Management, we kindly ask for all signage to be obeyed along with the traffic management.
Public safety is important and for this reason there will be no access to the camping and picnic areas. If visitors are boating on the water, users are required to stay 100 metres away from the road edge.
The Waikato River Trails will also be closed through this area during this project. Traffic management will be in place to let trail users through via State Highway 30/Ongaroto Road.
