Putāruru Transfer Station to open Saturday 23 May

South Waikato District Council is pleased to advise its community the Putāruru Transfer Station will be open to the public from tomorrow, Saturday 23 May.

The Putāruru Transfer Station will resume it’s normal operating hours which are from Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 9am - 4pm

Council’s Infrastructure Manager Phil Burt said his team were able to get an approved traffic management plan in place, which had been the main reason for the delay in opening the transfer station.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we’ve attempted to reopen the Putāruru Transfer Station,” said Mr Burt.

“The issue of safety for users and regular traffic on SH1 were the biggest factors in the delay. While adhering to the Government guidelines on contact tracing and social separation was an added complication.”

As part of the traffic management plan users will not be able to turn right from the Putāruru Transfer Station onto SH1 and advised to turn left at Domain Rd to travel back into the township.

Other restrictions in place at the Putāruru Transfer Station ­­­­are:

• NO cash - paywave and eftpos only.
• Limited number of vehicles allowed on site at any one time. Expect delays and wait times.
• Exercise physical distancing on site.
• Greenwaste can be processed.
• Limited to a maximum of two people per vehicle.
• Contact tracing in place. Please comply with requirements.
• Access is under traffic management. Please adhere to all directions from security and compliance personnel.
• Wash your hands when you get home.
• Be patient. Be kind.

Mr Burt also cautions that the first weekend will likely be very busy and users patience is appreciated. He also kindly noted that to avoid any traffic congestion if residents can delay your visit to the transfer station by a day or two longer please do so.
