The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) and Outward Bound have joined forces again in 2019 to secure scholarships for young people aiming to grow and become effective leaders in their communities.
The scholarships, valued at $3,600, are available to nominated rangatahi who are aiming to develop their skillsets to assist with transition into work and adulthood.
South Waikato Mayor Jenny Shattock believes these scholarships are a valuable opportunity our youth should capitalise on.
“We are renowned for amazing talent and potential within our young people here in the South Waikato and I’d encourage our youth not to miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Successful applicants would gain a number of treasured skills from these courses that will serve them well for life ahead, so get those nominations in,” she said.
There are two Outward Bound courses – Mind Body Soul for youths aged 16-18 and Classic tailored for those aged 18-26.
Nominations can be made by sending contact details, a short bio about the nominee and a supporting letter to Noa Woolloff by email on Noa.Woolloff@mtfj.co.nz. Nominations are open all year around and courses are dependent on availability and quality of nomination.
It is important to note, if the nominated young person is successfully placed into a scholarship, they will then be required to fundraise $749 towards their course.
Last year there were 46 MTFJ/Outward Bound scholarships awarded across 21 councils throughout the country. MTFJ and Outward Bound anticipate on providing more assistance this year.
