State Highway 1 ghost line remedial work
Released: Wednesday 13 March
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is advising motorists that work will begin this Sunday on State Highway 1 through Tokoroa to cover up the ghost lines.
Works will start early Sunday March 17 at 5am and are expected to be complete by midday. Traffic management will be in place during the works, and will remain in place for 48 hours.
This stretch of State Highway will be a temporary speed reduction zone. Works include sealing the ghost lines and waterproofing the surface. As with all roading work, it is dependent on the weather.
The new seal will be applied between edge line to edge line and will not include turning bays. It is a temporary solution intended to cover the ghost lines in the lane and protect the pavement during winter until the full rehabilitation is undertaken later in the year. NZTA and Council will continue to liaise closely on this stretch of road over winter and spring until the road is rehabilitated in summer.
There will be places were the new seal will be opened again to install stormwater pipes.
This work will mean the majority of the old lane road markings will be completely covered, which will help eliminate the confusion the ghost lines have caused some road users. Turning bays will remain as is. Please be mindful of this.
We encourage road users to adhere to the traffic management guidelines and stick to the reduced speed limits for the safety of other road users, yourself and the contractors working on the site.
