Warm Homes Clean Air EXPO
Tokoroa has poor air quality in winter caused by smoke from woodburners. So far this winter, we have had 10 exceedances in Tokoroa.
"Council and the community have been aware of the air quality problems in Tokoroa for many years. To combat the problem Council has committed significant funding, we have applied to government schemes for additional funding, put education programmes in place and done significant promotion," said Kerry Fabrie, Council's Communications Manager. "In fact over the past 10 years over $1million has been spent in the South Waikato to combat this problem. But we're still having too many exceedances."
Council and other community organisations in the South Waikato are hosting a Warm Homes Clean Air EXPO at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre on Saturday 10 August 2013 from 10am to 4pm.
There will be a range of exhibits from suppliers of new energy efficient woodburners, heat pumps, insulation, good wood and heaps more.
Fun stuff is a kids area complete with puppet show, a free sausage sizzle and giveaways.
If you want to find out more about our air quality problems and how you can help improve our air quality, mark Saturday 10 August as the day to head down to the Sport and Events Centre to check things out.
"Entry to the EXPO is free, there is a free sausage sizzle and heaps of free guidance and advice come along and learn how you can help improve our air quality," Ms Fabrie concluded.
