Creativity, skill and teamwork are always the name of the game at the annual South Waikato Scrapheap Challenge; and this year was no different. Modes of transport were the favourite choice this year including a tank, a car and an aeroplane with one team opting for an emu. The South Waikato Trade Training (Toi-Ohomai) students took the top spot with a beautifully detailed car.
The judges were once again impressed with the creativity of the students and the concepts they came up with. Equally impressive was the level of skill the students showed throughout the day.
Teams of three drew numbers at the start of the day and were allocated a booth accordingly. This was the first time the team saw their 'scrapheap'. And the photos show their spectacular creations in just five hours!
The Scrapheap Challenge has been an annual event since the Trade Training initiative started in 2008. This year the event was again held at Holsters Engineering and all credit to the team for hosting the day, making their workshop available to the young people and their continued commitment towards promoting engineering as a career opportunity for our young people. Credit also to the team at Toi-Ohomai too for their commitment to building new engineers for the New Zealand workforce.
And a hats off to the teachers and schools involved for their continued participation in the event.
