Tokoroa turns it on for Black Ferns celebration

Tokoroa is proud to be hosting a Black Out themed community celebration for our local Rugby World Cup winning Black Ferns Toka Natua and Chelsea Alley on Saturday 9 September at 2pm at the Tokoroa Memorial Sportsground.

Tokoroa - and the wider South Waikato - is super proud of the teams' outstanding achievement. Given two of the players in the team are hometown Tok girls, many people in the community - including South Waikato District Council, the girls' families, businesses, schools, service providers, sport clubs, police and cultural communities - are rallying together to put on a Tok-style celebration.

"When it comes to breeding rugby greats, it's not just the All Black boys that come out of the South Waikato, we have more than our fair share of Black Fern girls too!" commented Deputy Mayor Jeff Gash. "Tokoroa couldn't be prouder of Toka, Chelsea and the rest of the team for the World Cup win over England.

"We're hoping to get more of the Black Ferns team to join in too watch this space."

When Toka popped into the Council earlier today she was greeted with well-deserved applause from our Customer Service staff. She had these words to say, "My passion is to build this community. My drive is to inspire others. Tokoroa is where my heart is, and all my dreams were accomplished while still living here."

Team mate Chelsea Alley shares her passion for Tokoroa, saying, "Tokoroa is the best! I love coming from such a supportive, proud community. Winning the World Cup was the best day of my life and a dream come true!"

"Toka and Chelsea have made their families very proud," said Lizzy Daniels, family spokesperson. "It is important that we celebrate this achievement."

The celebration is an open invitation to the community to pop along to the Tokoroa Memorial Sportsground to celebrate the Black Ferns' fantastic win.
