Te Waihou Track partial closure
The Leslie Road end of Te Waihou Walkway track will be closed to users from Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September to resurface the gorge area of the track. The Leslie Road parking lot will also be closed. This work and the closure period is weather dependent and could change.
Te Waihou Walkway will be open from the Whites Road end and users can still walk around the Loop Track, returning to the Whites Road end parking lot.
"Track closed signage will be in place," said Greg Shaw, Council's Parks Manager.
"The main driver for the work is that the surface cuts up really badly in periods of wet weather and we want to provide a good surface year round for users," said Mr Shaw. "The gorge portion of the track is hard to access so Council will be using a helicopter to drop metal at strategic locations along the portion of track and Forest View High School students will then spread the metal along the gorge portions."
This work is essential in preparation for the upcoming summer period.
"Council appreciates the patience of users, locals and especially neighbours," said Mr Shaw. "And a huge thumbs up to the Forest View High School students who are volunteering their time for this community service task."
