Tīrau Community Board by-election
Tīrau Community Board (TCB) member Derek Keesing has resigned from his role on the TCB. As a result, Council is required to hold a by-election.
Under the Electoral Act, if a vacancy occurs more than 12 months before the next triennial elections, then the vacancy must be filled.
"I encourage people in the Tīrau community to consider putting their name forward for this role," said Mayor Jenny Shattock. "Working for your community, in your community is very rewarding."
Nominations open on Wednesday 11 July 2018.
"It is with regret that I resign from the TCB," said Derek Keesing. "I encourage the Tirau community to get behind its Board to assist the team to achieve the goals, aspirations and expectations that this community deserves."
Mr Keesing wished the Board all the best with future projects.
This is Mr Keesing's second term on the Tīrau Community Board.
TCB chairperson Cassandra Robinson expressed her thanks to Mr Keesing for his passion for the Tīrau community, commenting, "You have been a valuable, respected member of the TCB and have made a significant, appreciated contribution to our Tīrau community"
Mayor Shattock echoed the TCB Chair's appreciation, saying, "Mr Keesing has made an important contribution to the Tīrau community; especially around the development of the Tīrau Walkway which will link the Domain to the township. We look forward to his continued involvement in the Tīrau community."
Eligible voters living in the Tīrau Ward can vote in this by-election and Council encourages you to ensure that your electoral details are accurate and up to date. This by-election does not affect residents of the Putāruru or Tokoroa Wards.

Nominations open on Wednesday 11 July 2018. Nomination documents and information flyers are available from Council's website, the Council office in Tokoroa and The Dog in Tīrau. Completed nomination documents must be received by the Electoral Officer no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 8 August 2018. Nomination forms must be returned to the Tokoroa Council office, not The Dog.
A preliminary electoral roll for the by-election can be inspected during normal office hours from Wednesday 11 July 2018 to Wednesday 8 August 2018 at the Council office in Tokoroa and at the Dog in Tīrau.
Electors may enrol or amend their enrolment details on the Residential Electoral Roll by:
- Completing an enrolment form available at Post Shops,
- Calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56),
- Visiting the Elections website here.If more than one candidate is nominated an election will be required. This will be conducted by postal voting with candidate names listed in random order on the voting papers.
