Restricted Fire Season Ends
News
South Waikato District Council Rural Fire Authority has lifted the restricted fire season status as from Monday 30 April, 2013. Council would like to thank everyone for their cooperation during this time.
Even though the restrictions have been lifted, Council encourages residents to remember these simple rules when lighting a fire:
- Always make sure the fire is in a safe place.
- Don't burn at night.
- Only burn environmentally friendly waste.
- Keep the fire to a manageable size (under three metres high).
- Never leave a fire unattended.
- Use mesh over the top of drum fires.
- If the fire becomes a danger call 111 immediately.
- Fires inside the urban areas require a permit from Council at all times.
It can cost thousands of dollars to suppress a Rural Fire that is out of control. The liability rests with the person who lights the fire.
