Nominations Opening Soon
Local government election process starts
The nomination period to stand for Council and the Tirau Community Board in the triennial local government elections opens on Friday 19 July 2013.
Local government triennial elections are held every three years. Standing for Council or the Board is an important part of that process. Candidates must be NZ citizens and be enrolled as electors to be eligible to stand and must be nominated by two people who are on the electoral roll either as residents in the ward for which the candidate is standing, or who are ratepayer electors of that ward.
"Council is holding a Candidate Information Evening at 7pm on Tuesday 9 July in the Council Chamber at the Tokoroa Office," said Council's Electoral Officer Richard Fisk. "If you are considering standing for Council, this information session is for you; and I would encourage you to attend."
The nomination period closes on Friday 16 August at noon.
"Your nomination must be with me on time," said Mr Fisk, "and it is best not to wait until the last day to bring it to me. If there is a problem with your nomination you may not have enough time to correct it."
Voting papers will be delivered between 20 and 25 September. Voting is by postal vote only. Voting closes at 12 noon on Saturday 12 October.
