Applications are now open for the South Waikato District Council Mayoral Scholarship Fund. If you are 21 or under, live in the South Waikato and are planning a Degree course of study next year, you are eligible to apply.
"I am thrilled to be able to continue to provide opportunities for the youth of our district through the Mayoral Scholarship," commented Mayor Jenny Shattock, "This fund is an excellent way to assist in youth development and education, by supporting them through their studies."
Council is offering a Mayoral Scholarship over four years to the value of $20,000 ($5,000 per year for a maximum of four years) for an eligible student applicant.
If you are interested in applying for the Mayoral Scholarship, make sure you submit your form by Wednesday 16 November, said Christine Beach, Council's Human Resources Manager. Applicants must have NZQA-approved University entrance qualifications, have appropriate references, show evidence of extra-curricular activities and have South Waikato residency.
On completion of study, depending on the job vacancies at Council, the Scholarship recipient may be offered employment. If such an offer is made, the person would be expected to accept the offer.
Initial enquiries should be made to the Human Resources Manager or click here. The successful applicant will be announced at the end of November.
"The Mayoral Scholarship was first introduced in 2006, and so far it has helped eight young people study towards their chosen career," continued Mayor Shattock. "We are proud to continue to support our local youth through this fund and look forward to receiving applications from our talented South Waikato students."
