Councillor Barrie Herlihy
Councillor Barrie Herlihy sadly passed away last night.
"Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Councillor Herlihy's family at this sad time," said Mayor Neil Sinclair. "As a past staff member and as a councillor, he was a well-known person in the community and will be sadly missed by many."
Councillor Herlihy was serving his first term as a Councillor; after having served as its Civil Defence Manager for many years. He was the Council representative for Senior Citizens and the Youth Council.
Councillor Herlihy's wife, Julie is also a familiar face in Tokoroa; working for Council herself, at the Bonaly Street restrooms.
Councillor Herlihy's commitment to the organisation, the South Waikato and the communities living here will be missed.
Under the Local Government Act there are several options as to how to treat the vacancy; this will be discussed at the Council meeting on 1 November. ends: words: 146
