Council retains Building Control Authority status
Council's Building Team has once again retained accreditation as a Building Control Authority (BCA).
This involves a bi-annual audit by International Accreditation New Zealand to ensure the team meet building regulations and that our quality assurance systems are appropriate and followed.
"Retaining our BCA status means we are able to keep this regulatory function local by having our own Council staff processing, issuing and inspecting building work," said Sharon Robinson, Council's Regulatory Group Manager. "Otherwise our Council would need to contract this work to another BCA. This would likely increase costs of processing building applications."
Amendments to the legislation this past year has required Council Building Control Officers to obtain Building Control Surveying Diplomas for small buildings and medium to large buildings.
"This has been a huge commitment for Council Officers and we are thrilled at our continued accreditation and applaud our Officers for their dedication to attaining these qualifications," continued Mrs Robinson.
Council achieved BCA status for the first time in 2008 when legislation changes came into being. Ends: words: 169
