Heavy Rain Warning - Orange

• When: 36hrs from 10am Thursday 17 Apr - 10pm Friday 18 Apr.
• Where: Eastern parts of Waikato region bordering Bay of Plenty (including the Kaimai, Reporoa and South Waikato).
• What this means: Expect 120 to 200 mm of rain inland, and lesser amounts nearer the coast. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm/h expected Thursday evening and Friday morning. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.

• Expect 120 to 180 mm of rain inland, and lesser amounts closer to the coast.
• Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm/h expected Thursday evening and Friday morning.
• Streams and rivers may rise rapidly.
• Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.

What to do:

• Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain.
• Avoid low-lying areas.
• Drive cautiously.

Strong Wind Watch - Yellow

• When: 27hrs from midnight Wed, 16 April to 3am Fri, 18 April.
• Where: Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato and Waitomo.

What this means:

• Easterly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.
• Damage to trees, powerlines, and unsecured structures possible.
• Driving may be difficult, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

What to do:

• Prepare your property by securing items that can be picked up by strong winds.
• Drive cautiously.
