The first phase of the upgrade project at the South Waikato Indoor Pools that began in February is now well underway. The changing rooms and showers have been demolished and the floor and pool tiles are being removed to make way for the much-needed upgraded facilities to be installed in their place.
The plant room demolition and electrical demolition works have been completed in both pool plant rooms. A temporary power supply has been installed and all plant room items being reused have been removed, cleaned and stored offsite.
The $17m upgrade is a key project in Council’s Long-Term Plan (LTP). The project will see improvements to the facility, including the installation of non-slip flooring in and outside the pool and the addition of new changing rooms suitable for families, the elderly and those with disabilities.
There will be a new splash pad for family fun as well as a new sauna and plunge pool. A community room will also be available to hire for events and parties. The outside will get a face-lift and a new play area.
A temporary pop-up small pool option, located at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre in Tokoroa, will offer limited services for the community such as learn to swim classes, water safety for schools, early morning swims and rehabilitation sessions.
