​Code of Conduct investigation – March 26

The South Waikato District Council has reported the outcome of a Code of Conduct Investigation arising from a formal complaint against Councillor Sandra Wallace.

An independent investigation was authorised by the Chief Executive following the receipt of an official complaint from Cr Hamish Daine, in relation to the conduct of Cr Wallace in allegedly not complying with the guidelines under the Electoral Act, in advertising her intent to mayoral candidacy in The Prattler publication.

In response to the complaint, the matter was referred to the Electoral Commission for investigation.

It was investigated on the basis of it being a breach of the Local Electoral Act 2001. Cr Wallace was reminded that all items of campaigning are required to be authorised.
