Central Government increases parking infringement fees
Changes passed down from Central Government have seen increases to the fines issued for parking infringement fees.
Infringement costs for parking in a disability space without the appropriate permit have increased substantially from $150 to $750.
"Council has no discretionary powers when it comes to these infringements – we are required to enforce these rules," South Waikato District Council Compliance Manager Kerry Beckett said.
"It's very important those who don't have the appropriate permit do not park in these spaces, while it's also crucial those who do have a permit display these clearly in their vehicles so Council Compliance Officers can see them."
The increased costs will be in place from Tuesday, 1 October. The Amendment Regulations can be found here:
