Water restrictions
Water restrictions for South Waikato
Due to the prolonged dry weather and the subseuqent increase in people watering their gardens, Council has introduced water restrictions.
No sprinklers are allowed and the community is only permitted to water gardens with hand held devices between 6am and 8am AND 6pm and 8pm.
Should the situation worsen there will be a complete ban on outdoor watering.
"While the weather has forecast rain next week, this does not necessarily mean that restrictions will be lifted," said Council's Services Manager Andrew Pascoe. "The restrictions will remain in place until such time as water table levels have been replenished."
According to Mr Pascoe, Arapuni is the worst affected area.
"Pumps are running 24/7 to keep up with demand in Arapuni," he continued. "Residents need to curb their water use to avoid breaching the resource consent limit."
Council will keep the public updated.
- Did you know that a sprinkler system can use over 1,000 litres of water each hour?
- Did you know that if you shorten your shower by a minute or two you could save up to 680 litres of water each month?
- Did you know that a dripping tap can waste over 7,000 litres of water each year?
Do the right thing. Save Water.
