Detecting water leaks reduces water consumption

Council will be undertaking water leak detection work on water pipes in Putaruru at the end of November.

"The water take resource consent for Putaruru has just been renewed and one of the conditions is to conserve water consumption," explained Andrew Pascoe, Council's Services Manager. "Council is required to set a target for water reduction so we're checking our own pipes; but it is important that the community are aware that they too have a part to play."

Using acoustic detection equipment, the contractor Water Loss Solutions will be able to detect where leaks are; and whether or not the leaks are on Council water pipes or on private property.

"If water leaks are detected on private property, Council will be writing to homeowners to advise them of the problem," continued Mr Pascoe. "Should leaks occur on private property it is the responsibility of the property owner to have them fixed."
