Temporary relocation of the i-SITE kicks off Tokoroa CBD development
The Tokoroa i-SITE will be relocating to its new temporary home in Leith Place, next door to Unichem (in the old Tokoroa Clothing Company premises).
The i-SITE doors at its current location will be open until 5pm on Wednesday 24 October. The i-SITE service will be temporarily unavailable on the morning of Thursday 25 October at the new location, but the team hope to be up and running by midday, or sooner.
"This is an exciting first step for physical changes at the site," said Ben Smit, Council's Acting Chief Executive. "The old i-SITE will be demolished to make way for the new and innovative building that will house the i-SITE and public toilets as part of the Tokoroa CBD development project."
"Once the i-SITE is back up and running in its temporary location next to Unichem, there will be no change to our current service," said Garry Brunton, Manager of the Tokoroa i-SITE. "All services we currently offer will continue during this temporary relocation."
The existing Leith Place public toilets closure will follow in due course. Alternative public toilet arrangements are in progress.
Tenders for the building construction and civil works have been submitted and staff are currently negotiating with the preferred contractors.
"Council is chomping at the bit to get cracking on this long awaited project and is pushing the necessary planning processes along as hard as possible," said Mayor Jenny Shattock. "I am sure many will agree that it will be very exciting when the construction fence goes up and major physical works begin. Of course it will be even more exciting when the fence comes down."
