Public Toilets
Council provides over 30 public toilet blocks at a number of sites throughout the district in the town’s CBDs, reserves, sportsgrounds and on several rural reserves. A number of other public toilets are part of other Council owned buildings such as the Libraries, Pools and the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre. The toilet facilities range from basic vault or composting toilets in more remote locations to 'Novaloo' toilet blocks in Arapuni, Putāruru and Tokoroa. Toilets are open for a variety of daytime periods, with some remaining open to provide a 24 hour/7 day service for the public.
Council manages the cleaning, maintenance and refurbishment of these toilet blocks under various contracts. We also look after the security for the toilets and manage the opening and closing hour's dependent on the time of the year and requirements for events.
We also have a transportable toilet block which can be used at various sites around the district to provide additional facilities during an event.
Council provides public toilets as there is not often a private provider of such facilities in the wider community. Council also provides toilets in areas of public interest such as walkways and in other areas of need such as reserves where camping or other activity takes place to encourage use and bring people to the district.
