Levels
Level 1: Starfish Classes are designed for the total beginner who is not comfortable putting their head under water. There is a focus on water confidence activities, fun games and enjoyment in the pool with the aim for children to be comfortable putting their head under the water and doing basic assisted floating.
Level 2: Seahorse Classes are designed for children who are comfortable putting their head under the water. There is a focus on floating, gliding and submersion. Children are introduced to basic flutter kick, leg circles and freestyle arms.
Level 3: Orca Classes continue to work on freestyle and introduce backstroke and breastroke. These classes help children develop effective freestyle arm and kick action. There is a focus on developing a long legged kick for both freestyle and backstroke. Backstroke and breaststroke arms and sculling action are introduced and children learn to swim a basic breaststroke.
Level 4: Dolphin Classes focus on developing correct and relaxed breathing action. Students are taught bilateral breathing in freestyle and activities focus on rotation and body position. Students continue to develop breaststroke and basic backstroke confidently. There is more of a focus on technique and breathing over mileage as it is important to develop a strong foundation before increasing distances.
Learn to Swim development...
Level 5: Shark Classes help students refine their freestyle breathing as well as body position and techniques in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. This level builds on what is learnt in Dolphin and continues a focus on technique while adding more distance.
Swim Academy is the next step: Classes emphasise technique while building endurance. Distances are increased while maintaining a strong focus on technique in all strokes. There is a focus on maintaining a good body position in all strokes and improving timing and efficiency. Students continue to work on tumble turns and butterfly arm action. This squad can provide a transition point between learn to swim and competition training. It is also for children who are not ready or wanting to be involved in competition training but would like to develop their fitness and technique in a squad based programme.
