Credit Card Payments
Want to pay by credit card?
(Note: website credit card facility is currently only available for rates or parking fine payments).
Credit cards accepted at all Council offices.
Internet / Telephone Banking or Direct Credit payments
IMPORTANT: Please take care to read the guidance below to ensure your payment to Council can be correctly identified. Failure to insert the relevant information in each field may result in your payment not being lodged correctly on Council's side.
Is your Bank pre-registered for Bill Payments?
By using your bank's Bill Payments system, you do not need our bank account number as your bank already has it recorded for you.
Pre-registered banks
If your bank is listed below, we recommend you use their Bill Payment service to help minimise any payment errors, and ensure your payment is correctly identified on our side. We are pre-registered for bill payments with the following banks:
- BNZ
- Westpac
- ASB
- ANZ
- PSIS
- TSB
- Kiwibank
- HSBC
- The Co-operative Bank
Rates Payments
Our name will appear on your bank's list of pre-registered payee's as 'South Waikato District Council-Rates'. All you will need to provide is your property location (address), property owner name and property valuation number, all of which appear on your rates invoice at the top of the first page.
Non Pre-registered Banks
If your bank is not listed above, you will need to set-up the payment and reference details manually.
It is vital that you provide the following reference details when making direct credit payment into Council's bank account (otherwise your payment may not be correctly identified):
- First field: (address as shown on your rates invoice)
- Second field: (ratepayer name as shown on your rates invoice)
- Third field: (property valuation number as shown on your rates invoice, beginning with '054').
(Note: If your bank has only two reference fields available - please ensure your property valuation number is inserted in the first field).

Water Billing Payments
Our name will appear on your bank's list of pre-registered payee's as 'South Waikato District Council-Water'. All you will need to provide is your water account name and number, all which appear on your water invoice.
Non Pre-registered Banks
If your bank is not listed above, you will need to set-up the payment and reference details manually.
It is vital that you provide the following reference details when making direct credit payment into Council's bank account (otherwise your payment may not be correctly identified):
First reference field: (water account name as shown on your water invoice)
Second reference field: (water account number as shown on water invoice-begins with 'W')
Other Debtor Payments
Our name will appear on your bank's list of pre-registered payee's as 'South Waikato District Council-Debtors'. All you will need to provide is your debtor account name and number, all which appear on your debtor invoice.
Non Pre-registered Banks
If your bank is not listed above, you will need to set-up the payment and reference details manually.
It is vital that you provide the following reference details when making direct credit payment into Council's bank account (otherwise your payment may not be correctly identified):
- First reference field: (debtor account name as shown on your invoice)
- Second reference field: (debtor account number as shown on your invoice - beginning with two to three alphabetical letters, for example 'DG12345')
