The recent news of the wastewater spill in Taupō within the last 24 hours has brought about some concerns for our water here in the South Waikato.
We can confirm from our infrastructure and maintenance department that there is no danger to South Waikato urban residents and their water supply.
“While there are concerns that the spill is travelling north into the Waikato River, SWDC can assure residents that our urban water comes from secure bores with the exception of the Blue Spring – which comes from the Waihou catchment and is not connected to the Waikato River,” said Assets Group Manager Ted Anderson.
“Our water goes through the process of microfiltration and UV disinfection. In addition, chlorine is added.”
Mr Anderson also reinforced that our water technicians are constantly monitoring and sampling water and will continue to do so in light of this event.
