Two trees in Bridge Street to be removed
Two of the large oak trees in Bridge Street, Tokoroa (outside Waiariki and Westpac) will be removed due to ill health.
In a report from Arbor Culture NZ Ltd it was recommended that removing the two trees would ensure public safety and benefit other nearby trees as they will receive more light, moisture and nutrients without having a huge impact on the visual appearance of the street.
"Removing these two trees and additional work on several other trees will be conducted in stages, more than likely over the weekends over the coming months," said Greg Shaw, Council's Parks and Property Manager. "Road closure will be necessary."
"Council has had its eye on several trees in Bridge Street," explained Greg Shaw, Council's Parks and Property Manager. "Over the past few years some of them have been slow to come into leaf and are showing clear signs of stress. Due to the pavement and roadway around the base, street trees tend to have a shorter life span than if they were growing in a park surrounds with grass and open ground at the base."
Council will also be investigating the replacement of these specimen trees in conjunction with the Leith Place re-development project. Ends: words: 201
