814 television sets recycled
The Central Government funded TV Takeback Scheme has officially finished. Council would like to thank the South Waikato residents who recycled their old television sets as a part of this initiative, helping us to recycle a total of 814 sets.
As part of the Waste Minimisation Initiative, Central Government undertook this subsidy to cover the true costs of recycling old television sets.
With the scheme now ended, this unfortunately means television sets will no longer be recycled at the Tokoroa and Putāruru waste disposal sites.
"The recommended charge to recycle a TV set is simply not sustainable," commented Council's Senior Services Engineer, Mick Jones, "Council can no longer recycle them, as the cost greatly outweighs the benefits."
Television sets must now be disposed of as with everyday waste.
