Make sure you're enrolled to vote
The Electoral Commission is currently sending people on the electoral rolls their enrolment update packs.
- If you have received your pack and all your details are correct, you don't need to do anything further. Your voting papers for the local government elections will simply be sent to you in the mail closer to the October elections.
- If you receive your pack and something needs updating, the changes need to be sent back to the Registrar of Electors immediately.
- If you have not received a pack, you are either not enrolled to vote or you have moved since the last elections. You need to ensure you are correctly enrolled or you won't be able to vote. Enrol or update your enrolment details:
- Online at www.elections.org.nz
- freetext your name and address to 3676
- call 0800 36 76 56
- go to any PostShop and fill in an enrolment form.
More information about enrolling to vote is available at www.elections.org.nz.
Only people enrolled by 16 August will be sent their voting papers in the mail. This is the easiest way for voters to have their say in the local elections. Those enrolling after 16 August will need to cast a special vote, and will need to contact the electoral officer at Council on 885 0340 to obtain voting papers.
Voting in the local elections is by postal vote from 20 September to 12 October 2013. Voters are reminded that their postal votes need to be received no later than noon on 12 October.
